$600,000 Resolution In Nursing Home Bedsore Case

Daniel Smart successfully resolved a nursing home bedsore case against a downstate nursing home for $600,000. The 77-year-old male plaintiff presented to the nursing home and was assessed as at risk for skin breakdown. He required assistance from staff with bed mobility, bathing, dressing, toileting, transfers, and ambulating. During his residency at the defendant nursing home, the staff failed to turn and reposition him, resulting in a stage IV bedsore on his sacrum with exposed bone. The massive bedsore required surgical debridement.
