Jesse Placher recovered $525,000 for a woman who suffered a nerve injury caused by the medical negligence of a downstate orthopedic surgeon. She underwent a total hip replacement by the surgeon, during which two of the screws were left abutting the sciatic nerve/lumbosacral plexus, causing an immediate nerve injury. The surgeon used screws that were too long during the procedure and failed to timely diagnose and treat the nerve injury, resulting in a delay of approximately 18 months before the nerve injury was discovered by the Mayo Clinic. By then, it was too late to surgically correct the injury.
