Matthew Dudley reached a $5,000,000 settlement agreement on behalf of a woman who was victimized by medical malpractice, the highest medical malpractice settlement in DeKalb County history. The woman went in for treatment at Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s emergency room when she was diagnosed with cellulitis. She was sent home from the emergency room after doctors observed markedly abnormal laboratory results and a red, swollen right arm. She returned to the ER 19 hours later with a bacterial infection that had not been monitored properly. The plaintiff suffered profound septic shock resulting in the amputation of both legs below the knee and the loss of most of her fingers on both of her hands. This settlement will allow for the woman’s future medical needs to be adequately met, in addition to housing modifications she will require as a result of her injuries.
